AUTOMATED COUNTERBALANCED STACKER

Automate pallet handling and transport

The Yale Relay™ automated counterbalanced stacker is a robotic lift truck that automates transport, staging and pallet handling tasks. With lift heights up to 13 feet, it bridges the gap between horizontal transport and vertical pallet positioning, enabling end-to-end automation from the dock to storage locations.

Key Features

Mapping and navigation

Deploying robotic forklifts in your warehouse doesn’t involve complicated software engineering and often does not require any special infrastructure.

  • Simple setup. Mapping your warehouse is as easy as manually operating the automated forklift through your warehouse and dropping waypoints in a user-friendly portal.
  • Independent navigation. The automated counterbalanced stacker uses a simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM) algorithm to create the map and check the autonomous forklift’s location against that map.
  • 2D LiDAR guidance. This pallet automated guided vehicle (agv) is equipped with a 2D LiDAR system that understands the truck’s position and direction of travel.
  • Path obstruction detection. Sensors along the bottom of the robotic counterbalanced stacker detect low-lying objects while a 3D camera system looks for suspended objects in the travel path. The truck slows and then stops until the obstruction moves or has been removed.
  • Operator presence detection. A second 3D camera directed at the operator compartment checks for operator presence to prevent automated movement if someone is present but has not switched the truck to manual mode.
Autonomous experience

Charge and complete a wide range of pallet handling tasks common in warehousing and distribution operations, without intense operator or supervisor intervention. Our automated lift trucks aren’t one-off solutions or aftermarket retrofits. They are built in-house, offering a tightly integrated package with greater convenience for customers and product consistency.

  • Hands-free charging. Returns to a charging station and docks on its own with automated wireless charging.
  • Conveyor pick and putaway. Handles pallets from the end of most conveyor types.
  • Stretch wrapper interface. Automates pallet extraction from stretch wrapper outfeeds and delivers pallets to staging or storage.
  • ASRS interaction. Handles pallet handoff to and from automated storage and retrieval system (ASRS) positions.
  • Floor-to-floor transfers. Moves palletized loads between production, storage and docks without operator involvement.
  • Stage lane creation and management. Builds and manages outbound or inbound staging lanes.
  • End-of-aisle pick and drop. Automates horizontal pallet transport to and from manual picking aisles.
  • Low-volume rack pick and place. Automates light pallet putaway and retrieval tasks in low- to mid-level storage.
Performance

The automated counterbalanced stacker is designed to integrate into existing workflows with minimal infrastructure changes, enabling warehouses to hand off pallet movement tasks to automation quickly and easily.

  • Lift height up to 13 feet. Enables this forklift agv to take on not only point-to-point transport at ground level but applications involving a degree of vertical lift off surfaces, like picking up pallets from stretch wrappers or ASRS outfeeds.
  • Travel speeds up to 4.5 miles per hour. Balances high throughput with safety in mixed traffic warehouse environments.
  • Broad pallet compatibility. Accommodates the majority of pallet types and weights common in warehouses and distribution centers.
  • WMS and PLC integration. Allows the counterbalanced stacker to receive tasks from existing warehouse management systems (WMS) and programmable logic controls (PLC).
  • Simple stage lane logic. Supports automated pallet staging and lane management even in facilities without a WMS.
  • Barcode reading. Enables load traceability throughout facility and verification against WMS to confirm correct pallet and location.
  • Camera-based pallet pocket detection. Accurately identifies pallet entry points using vision technology.
  • Side shifting forks. Enables reliable pallet engagement without requiring the truck to align precisely with the position of the pallet.
Easy Maintenance

Some approaches to automated lift trucks involve disjointed integration, fragmented support from multiple providers and long waits for offshore support. Yale Relay automated counterbalanced stacker are standard lift truck models equipped with robotic technology, enabling service continuity and flexible operation.

  • Local support. The seamless support of the extensive Yale® dealer network is at the ready for training, parts and service.
  • Familiar parts, fewer delays. The autonomous model uses the same parts as the manual equivalent, enabling convenient service and support.
  • Maintenance-friendly design. Automation components like LiDAR and sensors are integrated separately to allow updates and service without interfering with other components.

Robotic counterbalanced stacker to help overcome labor limitations

Maximize productivity with automated stacking and transportation

Technology integration

Our robotic lift trucks aren’t one-off solutions or aftermarket retrofits. They are built in-house, with the robotic components installed during the manufacturing process, offering a tightly integrated package with greater convenience for customers and product consistency.

  1. Performance improvements. Because we provide a mature, commercially proven lineup, rather than one-off robotic projects, our robotic lift trucks benefit from experience in a wide range of real-world applications and continuous improvement.
  2. Strong continuity of supply. The majority of the robotic unit’s parts are the same as manually operated lift trucks, for reliable availability of spare parts at local dealers.
  3. Automated charging enables robotic lift trucks to return to a charging station and dock when needed, without an operator or supervisor initiating charging.

Navigation

Robotic lift trucks locate themselves in real-time by comparing what the navigation laser detects with the reference map, allowing a robotic truck to perceive and interact in real-time with its environment, making decisions autonomously.

  1. Easily integrate robots into your facility with infrastructure-free navigation technology.
  2. Plan and modify paths quickly and simply.
  3. Quickly accommodate changes to the environment by having the truck perform a new “walk” to re-map the facility.
Service

Our robotic lift trucks are standard lift truck models equipped with robotic technology, which enables service continuity and flexible operation.

  1. Simplify service and parts availability with a single-source provider for your entire fleet. Our dealer network is 4,600+ technicians strong, and the same certified Yale dealer who services your manual lift trucks is trained to service your robotic trucks too.
  2. Switch from autonomous operation to manual control with the touch of a button or by moving the tiller, allowing an operator to take control as needed.
